Beaches

The province of Alicante has hundreds of kilometres of the best beaches in Europe. Quiet, hidden away beaches as well as great majestic beaches, with fine golden sand and shingle, protected by geographical forms, or completely open, looking out over the blue horizon. With warm seawater throughout the Summer and Autumn, even in the Winter, these beaches offer an excellent solarium.

From Denia to Benidorm, the coastline goes through monumental and abrupt transformations. The normally horizontal nature of the coast occasionally is interrupted by steep cliffs, and then abruptly changes again into smooth sandy beaches. The crystal clear water, sea underworld, and the golden sand of the beaches are a constant presence in this landscape. The Capes of San Antonio de la Nao and Moraira, and a little further South, Peñon de Ifach, are geographical forms of impressive beauty, nurturing cliffs, coves and sandy straits. Javea, Teulada, Benissa, Calpe, Altea, Villajoyosa ... are coastal villages, situated on a coast line just. Their waters are inviting for us to sail out along the coast to discover the most secret of places. However, this natural wildness calms down in Benidorm, allowing the presence of impressive South-facing sandy beaches, which receive sunshine all year round. It is probably the number one tourist centre in the Mediterranean, and without a doubt number one in Spain.

Blue Flags sway in the breeze on the beaches as a symbol of the quality of the seawater and sand. All types of installations and services are available; children's play areas, sports facilities (Basketball, Volleyball, Football, etc..), floating platforms, ecological foot showers which are run with desalinated seawater, jetties, cleaning and maintenance services, campsites, hotels, restaurants, etc...

Alfaz del Pi

L'Alfas del Pi is in the Heart of the Costa Blanca. It's a city with an authentic Mediterranean character, a place where many Europeans are attracted by an ideal climate, life quality and incomparable landscapes which decided them  to stay.
L'Alfas del Pi has always been a meeting point for different nationalities and cultures. A place where people of different origins have joined together. An important archeological discovery near Albir beach bears witness to the presence of the Romans in this zone. L'Alfas was also a frontier disputed by Christians and Moors, to which it owes its name. In the 18th Century, the city was conquered by James the 1st, and during the 16th and 17th Centuries it was subjected to raids by the Berber pirates. The built-up area took roots at the start of the reign of the Borbon dynasty, which lead to the independence of the city as an autonomous municipality.

Traditionally, its economy has been tied to the land, to fruit production and mining. Tourism has provided the basis for the development of urban, human and cultural aspects in the city, with residential zones which have a limit of 4 floors in height, and in which 50% of land is reserved for green zones. Of the approx. 14000 inhabitants, approximately half of them are foreigners, with 54 different countries of origin, the majority of whom are German, Norwegian, Dutch and English.
Furthermore, infrastructures have been developed in Alfas in order to improve the life quality of its inhabitants; a sports centre, health centre and cultural centre form part of these services. The Cultural centre offers a comprehensive range of services, such as a concert hall, radio and television studios, courses for Spaniards and foreigners alike as well as activities such as the Film Festival (held in the first week of July), Jazz festival (October), symphonic and chamber music concerts, art and sculpture exhibitions, etc.

The sport centre, with a surface area of over 100,000 m2, has been considered as one of the best in the province. This, together with the mild climate, means that top level sport competitions and trainings can be organised throughout the whole year. There is 400 metres athletics' track, discus throwing area, gym and a 25 metres long swimming pool.

El Albir

The Albir beach is only 2 kilometres away from the centre of Alfaz del Pi. It's a pebble beach, with calm, clear water, and has been awarded with the blue flag of the European Community for the quality of its water, its available facilities, and for having a large part of events focused in this area.

Benidorm

The secret as to why Benidorm is the number one tourist resort of the Costa Blanca lies in its beaches and varied leisure offers. Benidorm boasts one of the best beaches in the world. Its fine, daily cleaned sand, the quality of services and clearness of the water are the main reasons for the present richly use of the beaches by its visitors.

Levante Beach, which receives the largest number of sunbathers, is two kilometres long. It runs from the old quarter to Sierra Gelada and Rincón de Loix. At the height of summer, the great mix of the beach crowds is quite spectacular.

Poniente Beach runs from the old quarter to the neigh boring cove of Finestrat. This beach offers the same quality as Levante Beach, but is more tranquil.

Between Poniente Beach and the old quarter is a small cove known as Mal Pas Beach, which is accessible from the port or from some steps which come down from the Castle.

The old quarter is built around Canfali vantage point, an emblematic image of Benidorm, with its white stone balustrade and vantage point which is accessible from a downward stairway. Located in this zone is the neoclassical church dedicated to St. James the Apostle. From Castle Square, it is possible to walk along the typical narrow white-walled streets to Levante Beach or to the local Shopping Centre.

To explore Benidorm's impressive shopping area, start from Triangular Square, and walk down the streets named Martínez Alejos, Gambo, Dr. Perez Llorca or the wide Mediterranean avenue. Another good walk starts from the Town Council Building, and runs parallel with Levante Beach along Alcoy Avenue, or Madrid Avenue.

This walk turns into one of the most attractive night's-out to enjoy Benidorm night life. Benidorm's biggest park is called L'Aiguera, designed by Ricardo Bofill; it divides the town in two.

The other great secret to Benidorm is the wide variety of its leisure offers. There are never-ending possibilities of enjoyment for foreigners, Spaniards, children, young people and the elderly. Every possible taste in gastronomy, music, culture, outings, shopping and films is catered for; a walk in Elche Park, a trip to Sierra Gelada, a swim off the best beaches of Costa Blanca, a visit to the cinema, to the Aqua Park, a drink or a meal at any price you may choose, sports such as yachting or diving, and excellent night-time enjoyment.

Altea

This Mediterranean village still preserves the charm of the past. Its white walls, flooded in a warm light and the silhouette which is crowned by its two blue domes, invites us for a peaceful walk through the town's old quarter, to enjoy its magnificent beauty.

Altea is easily accessible from the rest of Spain and Europe, via two airports, "El Altet" Alicante (just 60 Kms away), and "Manises" Valencia (127 Kms away). It can also be reached by road, using the AP-7 Mediterranean motorway.

Another enjoyable factor is the climate of this delightful village. Due to its geographical position, along the sea and protected by the Sierra Bernia, Altea enjoys one of the best microclimates of the Mediterranean coast. Here, the sun can be enjoyed almost every day. According to studies undertaken by different environmental and health organisations, Altea and its surroundings have been classified as one of the healthiest zones in Spain.

The Old Town

A lot of Artists have been inspired by walking through the side streets of Alteas unique old quarters. At the highest part you can find the bustling and magical church square. Around it, there are the old village houses, which are models of the traditional Mediterranean architecture and a life style for those who seek to relax in their never-ending charm.

The Sea

Unlike other coastal villages, in Altea it is possible to enjoy the beach, calm coves, its sea promenade and of course, its important fishing port where the daily catch is auctioned on the traditional market. Altea is one of the most highly considered sites along this coast, particularly for those who seek to enjoy a privileged situation without losing out on tranquillity.

The Mountains

This point offers the finest view of the Mediterranean Sea. Because of its close proximity to 2 sport halls, the golf course and a variety of shops, this zone has slowly developed in to the ideal place to live for many residents.

Altea Hills

"Altea Hills" estate must be mentioned too, with its magnificent sea views, its luxury five star hotel, and, of course, its Social Club with paddle tennis courts, saunas, gym, squash courts, heated swimming pool, and a long etcetera, which together with excellent infrastructure and high security level, makes it one of the best estates in the zone.

This is the more luxurious district. Being famous for its style and glamour, with both the yacht harbour "Luis Campomanes" as well as Altea itself less then 5 minutes away, it's visited by VIP's as well as people from the highest class.

In Altea people forget the monotony of life. Here is the place to discover new experiences on a daily basis.
